Chapter 19 Feast
Before Calliope could refute Dominic’s suggestion, the latter had already dragged her out of the
door.
She was silent the entire time as she inwardly went over what she could afford to buy with her meager salary.
She stole a glance at Dominic. He’s been living in poverty for most of his life. Surely he doesn’t know much about the restaurants in Jazona. With his standards, the stalls by the roadside would probably suffice.
Also, some stores tended to provide unlimited side dishes. Surely it would be enough to feed him.
Calliope lowered her head, hiding a small smile.
She had been frugal since they got married. She would even choose the cheapest ingredients when she bought groceries for their meals. Nevertheless, she recalled the advice she heard from the housekeeper of the Gingrich family. The greatest hurdle to a young married couple was a waning pa*sion. It would do their relationship good to go out every now and then.
It should be all right to let loose a bit today. Treating him to a meal outside sounds good.,
When Calliope looked up, she realized she had followed Dominic to a bustling street, and they were now standing in front of the entrance to Grandeur Hotel.
“I’ve made my choice,” Dominic said airily, sounding as if he had selected a random cheap eatery.
“Huh?” Calliope exclaimed in shock.
“I said, let’s eat here.” Smiling, Dominic narrowed his eyes. “This restaurant looks good.”
Feeling shortness of breath, Calliope subconsciously gripped her bag tightly.
They were standing outside the most expensive five–star hotel in Jazona. Whenever she would pa*s by the place, she dared not even look at it.
With my salary, I don’t think I can even afford an appetizer!
Without waiting for her response, Dominic dragged her inside. The two attendants who stood on both sides bowed respectfully. Even the manager came out, a professional smile adorning his face. “Welcome.”
“Dominic!” Calliope hurriedly tugged at his arm.
“What’s wrong?”
We can’t afford to cat here. Let’s choose somewhere cheaper instead. How can people like us afford the expensive food here?
Calliope swallowed the words on the tip of her tongue.
She stared at Dominic’s expectant expression and thought of the valuable heirlooms he had given
to her.
He treated me like his own. How can I be so stingy toward my own husband?
Gritting her teeth, Calliope steeled her heart and mustered a smile. “Let’s go inside.”
Dominic was stunned. He had not expected her to agree to it.
“Are we really going in?”
“Of course we are!” Calliope smiled brilliantly as she nuzzled against him. “Since you like it here, we’ll eat here. Don’t worry. It’s only a meal. Your wife can afford that much!”
Dominic’s expression changed imperceptibly.
Knowing that she did not have a decent salary, he had chosen this restaurant on purpose. He was expecting her to find all sorts of reasons to reject his request and a*sumed that they would return home after buying some cheap takeout.
He only intended to tease her a little, forcing her to confess that she wasn’t Penelope but a stand-
in instead.
At that moment, he felt as if his prank had gone too far.
‘You know what, why don’t we…” Before Dominic could finish speaking, he found himself being dragged inside by Calliope. They found a table by the window that offered a view of the night sky.
Calliope ordered two dishes. Although they weren’t extravagantly priced, it was all she could afford. She also made sure to request the smallest portion from the waiter. This should be enough for Dominic alone.
“Why aren’t you eating?” Dominic looked at her.
Avoiding his gaze, she laughed. “I’m not feeling very hungry at the moment. I don’t really have an appetite.”
“Weren’t you just complaining that I didn’t make dinner?”
Calliope fell silent as a troubled look flashed across her clear eyes.
