Chapter 4 New Job
Antonia Traver’s POV
It took a few days, but I finally settled down in my home in Seafaire.
Time for a new life. Firstly, I must enroll my kids in a school. I found a kindergarten for them, but it took a lot of effort and money just to do that.
Secondly, I had to get a job for myself. I needed money to support the family. Weirdly enough, only seventeen companies called me for an interview even though I had sent my résumé to thirty-five. What was more, most of the companies that I interviewed with straight up said they wouldn’t hire me after the interview ended.
Some said they would get back to me, but I got nothing. Only one company would take me-Dallas Group. I was going to work as an admin there.
Dallas Group? That’s a big name. Why is Dallas hiring me when those small fries won’t? I tried to make sense of it but to no avail. In the end, I just ditched the thought.
Cherry and I took the kids to their school on Monday, and then I hurried over to Dallas Group.
Eventually, I realized why Dallas hired me. There was a disgustingly familiar face there.
I knew that man all too well, and it was not a good thing for me. That man went by the name of Michael Lane, and I couldn’t believe I was seeing him. “Why are you here?”
“It’s been a while, milady. Michael was staring at me happily, but the look on his face almost made me hurl. He was still leering as usual, and there was a smirk on his face. “It’s been years, but you’re still as gorgeous as ever.”
“My father exiled you, Mr. Lane. And you have the gall to show your face here in this city?”
Michael used to be my family company’s vice-president, but my father noticed him trying to take a stealthie of me, so he fired Michael and warned him to never come back to this city. I did not expect to run into him again four years later.
“The Travers aren’t what they used to be, and you’re not the boss of me now,” Michael sneered. Coldly, he said, “You’re nothing. This job you got? Yeah, I gave it to you because I knew you were desperate for it.”
The b”stard! I will not stand for this insult! I glared at him angrily and tried to leave.
“I suggest you think long and hard before you leave, Miss Traver. This is your last chance. Leave, and you’ll never get a job in this city, unless you sell yourself, of course!” Michael shouted haughtily.
Fury fueled me, and I hastened my pace. Never would I bow to a b”stard like Michael, but to my surprise, I noticed a crowd forming before the building.
I saw a middle-aged man covered in petroleum. He was holding a lighter while threatening everyone. “Don’t come any closer. I demand to see Elijah! Get him here, on the double!”
Nobody dared to go closer to him, and Dallas’ guards were trying to defuse the situation.
Some of Dallas’ top managers were among the crowd, and they were trying to a*suage the man. “Calm down, Mr. Tunes. Talk to us. We can help.”
“Calm down? All I did was cross him a little, and that b*stard bankrupted me overnight. Now I have nothing, and you expect me to calm down?” The man wasn’t in the best state of emotions.
What he said reminded me of my father. His company had been running well, but all of a sudden, it went bankrupt. Nobody told me why. All they said was that he was dead before I could even see him. Did Dad kill himself because someone sabotaged him like they did this man?
Just then, someone shouted, “Mr. Stone is here!”
I raised my head and saw a Phantom slowly coming closer. The bodyguards quickly evacuated everyone, and the crowd parted ways for the car.
The middle-aged man quickly rushed to the front of the car. He shouted. “Why did you do this to me, Elijah?”“
Silence hung in the air, and everyone stared at the Rolls-Royce nervously.
Dallas’ president is in that car? The man whom everyone in Seafaire fears? I could vaguely see a muscular silhouette in the backseat. He was staring at his phone, unfazed by what was happening outside.
The driver and his bodyguards were waiting for his orders. Things were getting tense, and the very air seemed to freeze.
The man in the backseat made a gesture without even looking up, and then the car sped up toward the
man.
Everyone was shocked. The middle-aged man didn’t expect Stone to be this heartless. Shock kept him in his place, and if this kept up, the car would run into him, no doubt.
I could never stand by and watch as someone was about to get killed. I rushed into the scene and pulled the man away from the car’s path without hesitation.
Elijah Stone’s POV
I was in a bad mood. Just when I was about to come to work, some annoying guy was creating a scene right outside of the building. And goddammit, why was that girl there as well?
Unlike me, Dolph couldn’t understand my frustration. Once again, he was whipped into ecstasy. He said. and I quote, “Our Luna has returned to us once more. This is fate. The Moon God has blessed us again.”
I didn’t have any special feelings for the girl, but Dolph might be right. Still, I had to deal with the middle- aged man for now.
The man who stopped my car seemed to despise me, but I didn’t care about his hatred. Humans were so weak. Every time they ran into a big hurdle, they would always try to stake their lives in an attempt to settle it. This man had no idea that he was just a casualty in a war.
Failure wasn’t detestable, but the lack of courage to face failure was. You fool. If you want to die so much, then so be it.
