Chapter 1013 Killed
Alex was startled. That woman’s voice sounded very familiar. He reckoned he must know who she was, but he couldn’t recall her identity.
Following the sound, he looked toward the crowd in the cage. A woman with disheveled hair but an outstanding appearance was also staring at him.
“Harper?” he instinctively blurted out her name. The person before him was Heather’s cousin. Harper Jennings.
He and Harper had quite a lot of grudges. She and Jacob had caused him trouble on several occasions, but he taught them a harsh lesson each time. He was surprised to meet her again at that place after parting at the Ancient Medicine Exposition.
Harper was actually quite unfortunate. She thought that by staying by Callum’s side, she would secure a lifetime of prosperity.
However, the Leighton family unexpectedly went bankrupt shortly after her good days began. David turned impotent, so he naturally had no reason to keep her by his side anymore as well.
With no one to rely on. Harper and Jacob could only roam the streets again, living a life of being pursued by creditors. Unfortunately, they were caught and brought to that place.
Seeing Alex barging into that place at that moment, Harper disregarded their past grievances and focused only on the thought of escaping that place as soon as possible,
“Alex, please save me! After all, I’m Heather’s cousin. We’re relatives! How can you just stand by and watch me die?”
“Stay in there obediently and pipe down!” Alex felt his head ache. What can I do even if I know Harper is in there? Even if the person trapped inside the cage is Heather, I can’t save her either. This is a huge cage, and those people inside will rush out if I unlock it.
He couldn’t deny that it was possible for them to leave the cage, but he knew everyone in the manor was fully armed and wielded powerful AK rifles.
Those in the cage were already mentally unstable and wouldn’t listen to his command. If they surged forward, how many of them could escape alive?
Harper was clueless about his concerns. She merely wanted to leave that place as quickly as possible. Sensing Alex’s reluctance to rescue her, Harper became even more frantic.
She shrieked at the top of her lungs, “Alex, you b”stard! We’re relatives, after all! How can you not save me? I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die! Jacob has already been disemboweled by those people, and h- his corpse is still lying there. I don’t want to end up like him.”
At that point, Harper broke down emotionally and slumped to the floor, pointing at one of the corpses lying face down among the pile of bodies.
Hearing that, Alex was slightly shocked. He didn’t expect that Jacob had also been captured and was already killed.
Alex walked in the direction where she pointed and indeed saw a body lying face down. He flipped the body over with his hand.
A familiar face appeared before Alex. Even though Jacob’s countenance was covered in blood, Alex could still confirm that the person was undoubtedly Jacob.
Alex disdained Jacob, but he had never taken him to heart. He had always regarded him as a mere jester.
Seeing Jacob’s corpse there, Alex sighed.
Ignoring Harper’s hysterical screams, Alex strode toward Elsa and said, “Stay here. I’ll go and take a look
outside.
“I’ll go with you.” Elsa grabbed his arm, wanting to keep him company. She didn’t want him to take the risk alone.
“You brought me here, yet you don’t have faith in me. If you continue to behave like this, I won’t be taking part in this matter anymore, Captain Sawyer!” Alex uttered with all seriousness while wearing a severe expression.
“L… Elsa hesitated for a while but ultimately complied with Alex’s arrangement and stayed inside the room obediently.
At that moment, Alex’s ears twitched slightly, and his visage darkened.
It was only normal for the people in the manor to notice the commotion in the room. Hearing the approaching footsteps from outside, Alex fearlessly pushed open the room door.
